The benefits of membership
The Independent Booksellers' Network is exclusively an organisation of internet booksellers. Some members may also have 'bricks and mortar' shops but they will be internet booksellers as well.Benefits to members:
Bookselling on internet can be a lonely occupation. You are not normally working with a crowd of other people with whom you can chat and exchange gossip while you are cataloguing books, or ask who is offering the best deal on ink cartridges at present, or for suggestions on the best digital camera to buy.
Membership of The Independent Booksellers Network gives you that opportunity. It also brings you into touch with bookselling expertise way beyond anything a single member could achieve in a lifetime.
To a limited degree the group can act as a representative body in the interests of the members. When something happens that affects the majority of members the group as a whole can take up the case and argue on behalf of those members who have been affected. The more members there are the greater the weight of the argument.
By joining together our bookseller-members have a louder voice when
negotiating with their suppliers, whether they be major international
enterprises or small local craftsmen. Suppliers seem pleased to offer discounts to the group as it brings them not just one new customer but many. We currently have arrangements with suppliers of packaging materials, repair and conservation materials, trade insurance and data uploading facilities all at discounted rates.Benefits to the public:
there are a number of internet booksellers who are here to day and gone
tomorrow. If you have a problem with something you have bought from one
of them you will probably find they have no permanent internet
We pride ourselves that our members are here for the
long term and offer a reliable and professional service when
bookselling. We try and ensure that we have no rogue booksellers amongst
our number. No-one can become a full member without first undergoing a
one year probationary period. Full membership is not offered unless that
year is completed satisfactorily.
As a group we also try and help
you with your book search, your book collection or your general
literary or other interests. Now that you have found us our aim is to
retain your interest and encourage you to visit us frequently. Our
members regularly post to our Blog, which covers numerous book related
topics and has many links to other book related blogs and sites, and to
Twitter to keep you abreast of book related and literary news. We also
have a glossary of some of the book terms traditionally in use in book
descriptions, to help you understand them.
